Had a lot of 'play' in my governor, such that I had to push the throttle arm almost a half, before the engine responded. Took my governor apart, and found that the hole for the spring on the spring-lever had worn to a 1/4" slot, (the spring was so loose I could remove it with my fingers), and the hole through the case for the shaft between the speed-change-lever and the spring-arm was so worn, the shaft was flopping around. Between them, they account for all the free play that was the original problem. The shop is going to weld them back up and re-drill, or maybe put a bushing through the case. It needs new seals, and the bumper-spring was gone, too. Hopefully I'll get it back through UPS midweek, and can put everything back together, with the final piece being the radiator "fender". (LOL)
Then watch out...I'll be doing SA wheelies up and down my driveway. =;-)

Let me take a sec and thank Hoober Inc. of McAlisterville Pa, who's service manager and parts guy could not possibly have been more helpful and patient, answering my rookie-questions and letting me pick their brains over 20 things unrelated to why I was there. They were beyond great. Thanks guys.

I even bought a gasket/seal set (*gulp*) for my hydraulic unit. Be a winter project, as I gradually try and reduce, one by one, all the places this '49 is leaking.

(BTW, advice welcome, on the project!)

Hoober is a good place for parts or advice. They've always gone out of their way to help you.
If you ever need a repair procedure they will either fax it to you or mail it from one of their
shop manuals.

They also have 2 places in Delaware. I'm in MD
and we've had about 8 inches of rain so far. Should've received some back in August and September. Hal
