I have an opportunity to purchase a Farmall 706..think its a 65..not sure, anyway the tractor is in great shape overhauled front to back, radiator, rings, pistons, clutch, TA, Carb, breaks, bearings etc. tires are excellent, two set of rear weights, very good paint..painted about three years ago after the overhaul and the tractor has about 200-300 hours on it. tractor is gas with a wide front, fast hitch and with the three point arms, two stage PTO. tractor comes with a four bottom plow. I drove it a couple of times and she starts and runs like a new tractor..very tight. very good power.
So I am interested in what the experts would predict...you guys reading this..as to what this tractor might be worth.

if it's as tight as you make it out too be than i'll also say $5-6k. that might be the market, but it's only worth to you what you want to pay 8>}

Well it sounds like several thousand dollars of work done recently but that doesn't mean the tractor will sell for thousands more than it did before the work was done.

I would guess $5,500 (+ or - $500) for the tractor and plow if it is in as good of shape as you describe.

That's my guess and I'm sticking to it. ;-)

You first -- why don't you tell us what the guy is asking for it?

Well, the farmer who owns the 706 bought it for a little over 2K..and thought that if he put maybe another 2K into the tractor he would have himself something. One repair led to another and when all said and done he spent close to 9K..He now wants 7K for the tractor..only reason I am seriously considering is because I know who did all the work on it and he is a top notch mechanic, does not cut corners and replaces old parts with new IH parts..tractor is real nice...as most of you said it is what you (I) want to spend and what it is worth to me. I doubt that I'll will be able to get my money out of it someday. Maybe..however I am not overly concerned. To buy a new tractor like this you are looking at maybe 20 to 25k...and it wouldn't be a Farmall. Thanks all for your input.

Since you know the guy and know what was done to it, then you have to decide what it's worth to you. Better to spend $2000 more than the going rate for a good tractor than to spend the going rate for an unknown.
