What color were the tools that came with a new F20, or Regular, and what were those "gas pliers" for?

I had a set of NOS tools for a Farmall H a couple years ago and they were not painted.

loren, i think that the wrenches were actually not painted at all. you can sandblast and varnish them or spray clear acrylic. the gas pliers are for several things but they get their name from tightening the nut under the glass sediment bowl. some have told me that these pliers are the reason that these knurled nuts have all the knurles rubbed off on many of them and that was all they were good for. russ

My father bought a new 1937 F-12 in July of 37. The tools that came with it were just unpained steel, and as they were carried in the tractors open tool box, they quickly rusted. To me they look right rusty, because thats the way they always were. I don"t rember the pliers but I do the wrenches. One of them, I think it was the next to largest was the right length to stick betwqeen the clutch pedal and the footrest and hold the clutch in so as not to have to crank the heavy grease in the tranmission on a cold day, also since the belt pully ran all the time the clutch was engaged, the wrench could be used to block the clutch and make repairs on the feed grinder or corn sheller without shutting the tractor engine down.
