Anyone know of some good reference material covering a in frame rebuild for a 263 gas engine?
Got to get ready for my winter project.

I got my hands on 2 real nice blue ribbon service manuals for my 706. One for the hydralic system and the other for the drive train. IH did some real out standing work when they came out with those manuals. The color coded schematic of the power flow through the power train. Really shows you how this thing gets its work done. Also the trouble shooting section by the sound the bad part makes is cool.

One thing that the others did not tell ya so i will as i have done abunch of them over the years (1) After installing the sleves give them a light hone job with a ridged hone to remove any wrinkels and trust me on this there will be ya may not see them but a bore gauge will show them to you and size the hole to match the piston and give yourself .004 skirt to wall clearance ya have to mic. each piston and each hole also deck the block and re cut the countor bores , myself when i do and OLD 263 i up rate it to a 291 and do all the other change over it make a bunch more pony's also resurface the head as it is warped.

Kelly, I'm with Chad on this one. The time/work it takes to pull the fuel tank is better spent splitting the tractor and pulling the engine. It's so much easier to work on like that, plus you can check out the clutch and replace the rear main seal and transmission shaft seals, plus you can clean everything up much easier and not worry about having contamination left inside the engine. Keep an eye on Ebay for Blue Ribbon manuals, I&T manuals are decent, too. Make sure to replace the pistons, wrist pins, and bushings, those are the most common things to be worn out on that engine. Chad mentions oil leakage past the valve guides, but they're supposed to do that, to a point. Thats why you have to use Low-Ash oil.

Kelly, I like the I&T shop manuals! Just my personal preference. Inframe overhauls arent too bad to perform on the 263,, its a pain to get the sleeve puller disk positioned in the bottom of the cyl, but with a helper its easy. Have the head redone while you have it down, guides, valves the whole 9 yards, it will pay off in the long run on these engines. Bout 60% of the oil burning comes from the head leaking down the guides. ChadS
