Farmall H carb questions

I have never seen a new Farmall H carb and am not sure how things should be so I have 3 questions: I am installing the throttle shaft bushing. I installed it then reamed it to .250" so far ok. My throttle shaft doesn't quite go in enough so I can put the butterfly in, is there a problem with the IH bushings available now (too long?). I got an extra bushing and it is a little longer than the one I removed. When the throttle shaft Butterfly is closed all of the way ( before I took out the bushing), I can still see a little daylight around some of the edges, is my butterfly worn and should it be replaced? My throttle bore has some nicks, groves below the throttle shaft with Butterfly, is that a problem? Thanks!!

You might be expecting a little too much of your old H's carb.

I think the problems come from too much air leaking in between the shaft and the bushing. It is essentialy unmetered air, i.e. it is not picking up any gas.

The throttle valve is too simple to shut the air off entirely. In any case, the idle mixture screw should take care of any small air leaks that you might have.

The bushing should not intrude into the throttle bore. If the new bushing is too deep, can you pull it back out a little and make it work ?

Try installing the throttle plate and just loosely installing the screws. Close the throttle shaft firmly and give the throttle plate a little tap to seat it. Carefully fully tighten the screws. If the plate has a bevel, make sure that it is right way around.

Just went through the same thing, except on the one I had the shaft was too long, had to grind a little off the end of it to get the butterfly to fit.

Is the throttle speed screw backed out? If not it will keep the butterfly form closing all the way.

Thanks for replying. My idle stop screw is removed . With the throttle plate flat across the bore ( Throttle shaft closed all of the way), I can see some daylight, not much, but a little on around some of the edges. I am trying to get my H to idle at the spec (450 rpm's) but can't get it much below 600 rpm's without stalling, so I am trying to find the problem.
