I used Bondo a lot at an after school job, many moons ago. I just used some today on an old runabout car. There is nothing on the Bondo can or on the tube of hardner about air supply mask. Is Bondo hardner the same type as mentioned in previous post and just as dangerous.

Good question, Dellbertt. I think CNKS & I would agree that we were discussing "hardener" only as a paint additive, not in the Bondo process. My understanding is that Bondo is a brand name of two-part epoxy body filler, of which hardener is an essential part, and breathing protection is not required, as the final product is "troweled on." I believe, and CNKS can corroborate or correct me on this, but the paint-related "hardener" is a different animal. The problem with the paint-type hardener is when you employ a spray application and it becomes atomized and enhaled. These are the types of questions which need to be definitively cleared up here.

This is better than Bondo.

I use "bondo" as a generic term even though it is a trademark. Evercoat is good stuff, although the local dealer doesn't carry many versions of it. I generally use PPG's body filler, and sometimes put Evercoat's Metal Glaze over it. Either one leaves far fewer pinholes than the trademarked Bondo. I would like to try Evercoat's Metal-2-Metal, the aluminum reinforced stuff if I could find it. I use a lot of JB Weld as a first application, if I have dents deeper than about 1/16-1/8 inch, then cover it with body filler. I don't believe the JB Weld will crack or fall out like "bondo" will if it gets too thick -- at least it hasn't yet.

Like most people use the word "Cresent Wrench", when it is really a "Stillson Wrench", aka, "Adjustable Wrench". ;o]

No -- I use a charcoal mask with particulate pre-filters when sanding. Bondo contains silica, and is perhaps not as dangerous as when sandblasting, but you should use a mask -- during application, no, unless you work with it all day.

I think Delbert the hardner they are talking about is a paint additive that makes paint dry faster with higher gloss. I has some very nasty fumes to go along with it.
