I have a mid 40"s Farmall B that is making a popping sound in the left hand final drive area. Can anyone tell me what that is....how serious it is..... what I am in for as far as repair?Thank you.

If you open it up and find you need some parts I have a B that I'm parting out.

1942, It sounds like your outside bearing may be shot. Try jacking up the backside of the tractor and see if your getting movement on your wheel. If so you will have to block up your rearend and pull your axle. You will need to drop the bullgear pan and take the inside final drive cover off to take the axle out. You may as well replace that seal when you have it apart. Not a bad job to do.

Might be a bearing.
Might be a loose bolt that holds the rim to the wheel center too, I've had that happen too.

Either way, I wouldn't let it go too long. It's not too bad of a job to take the drive off and go through it. Might need access to a press to get the axle out of the big gear. Everything else should be do-able with normal hand tools.
