I bought an old cub from a man locally. It hadn't been run for 3 months, but with clean fuel and a starter switch, she fired right up and idled good. I let it idle for a while and reved it up, still ran great. I shut it off, confidant in the way it ran, and procceded to paint it, cause the owners grandson started to paint it with rattle cans in a strange orange colour. I put new decal on it and re-installed the cultivators. After a couple days I started it up and again it ran great, so I took it for a spin around the shop area. It started sputtering and cutting off I had to pull the choke out to keep it running. I finnally got it back to the shop, and sitting there it again runs great. I grabbed the sterring columm and shook it pretty hard and it started spitting and sputtering again. I took the carb off and tried to clean it , but couldn't see anything a-miss. I put it back on and fired it up and it runs great, till I shake it and it starts spitting and sputtering again. Does anyone have any ideas? It don't make any sense to me how it can run so good sitting still, but spit and sputter if shaken. I cchecked the wiring and found no problem, but I didn't thing it was electrical anyway, as pulling out the choke helped. I'm puzzled and need some help. Thanks, Nat

I'd have to agree with Magman. Sounds like junk in the gas tank.

Mine did that also . Try This #1 Make sure fuel shut off is all the way open. #2 Take the line off the carb and with compressed air turn the gas on and blow back into the tank. That may have a partialy pluged sediment. JON

I'd say you have dirt or scale in the gas tank that your shaking loose and partially clogging the gas line/carburetor. You'll most likely have to take the gas tank off to clean it thoroughly. You may also need to seal it. New sediment bulb and gas line wouldn't hurt. Brake line from the auto shop makes good gas line but can be hard to bend. I don't have much experience with Cubs but the A/B carburetors have a screen where the gas line enters the body of the carburetor, this is a replacement part that many don't know about. Having said all of this It still may be electrical or are you rocking it hard enough to move govenor linkage? Dave.

Well I drained the fuel. Tank was clean and fuel was clean, Settling bowl had a few drops of water. I cleaned and dried everything and put gas in and now it does great. I don't know if it was the drops of water or what, but it's OK now . Thanks for the help, Nat BTW;To the other Nat, my Nat is also a reserved name, and has been for years, so let's make sure any advice we give is good so nobody is cussing either of us Nat's
