I need to remove the bearings, shaft, pulley, etc from an IH sicle mower. They are the unit that is belt driven from the pto shaft and moves the pitman arm. I have removed the cover from the front side (4 bolts and shims) and the pitman arm from the back side. I have tapped on the shaft but it seems solid. Can anyone help me on how to get this shaft out?
Thanks for reading.

If you are talking about getting the shaft out of the flywheel that has the pitman attached, I think most of them are threaded on. You will have to unscrew in direction opposite to rotation.

I believe you described the correct part, now the question is how do you hold the shaft to unscrew the flywheel? I can't get much of a hold on the back end of it.

Don't know which mower you have, but on the tractor trailer mowers, the shaft is short. I have a parts book for some of the mowers and it shows that shaft is threaded on both ends. That would be the end with the belt pulley and the end with the fly wheel. I guess to hold things to unscrew the pulley and the flywheel, you would have to hold the pulley or the flywheel and try to get leverage on the other to unscrew it. Likely to be tight, as threads are made so mower working tightens things.

Well, I butchered the mower but got the pully, flywheel and shaft out, which is what I wanted. On this mower, the flywheel and pully are both on the same side and no threads on either end of the shaft. I cut the housing open to get it apart. The bearings on each end are just pressed on, not sure how I will get the other mower together but something always works out. Thanks for your help.
