Hello,

I am helping my dad get his tractor running and he has a 1942 Farmall A model. So far as he is getting different firing order from everyone he speaks to I would like to get it right for sure. This is how I understand it is:

Dist cap looks like from rear 2 1 4 3

Firing order 1, 3, 4, 2

Number 1 cyl is on very front of tractor closest to the radiator.

If someone can tell me if this is correct I would appreciate it very much.

Thanks....

No. 1 plug wire is SUPPOSED to go in position marked No. 1 on distribitor cap but you will find tractors timed with No. 1 wire in every position on cap. They will run just as well this way only makes it confusing to next person who works on distribitor.

The firing order is cast right into the engine block. Can't get a more authoratative answer than that...

Your distributor is wired incorrectly. There's a "1" molded into the distributor cap. Plug the #1 wire in there. From there, you go around in a clockwise (IIRC) direction connecting #3, #4, and #2 wires.

Nat, Did I answer the question wrong, or just not to your liking? I thought I confirmed the proper firing order, and were the #1 cylinder is located.

You have the right firing order and No1 plug is near the radiator. When you look at the rotor
you need to see which way it rotates. If it turns
CW your plug wires should be in this order: Hal
2-1
4-3 if it rotates CCW they should be in this order:
1-2
3-4

Peedle, That is correct, your #1 cylinder is up front by your radiator. And yes, the firing order is 1,3,4,2. The firing order is cast onto the engine.
