If it could be afforded, I think it good to at least replace the seals, even if they didn't leak. Good educational experience for all involved. Clean the groove good as well and be careful what you coat the seals with, if anything when re-installing them.

My 2 cents not my common cents...

I think I would install a new sleeve and piston kit. Those are wet sleeves and they have a sealing ring (doughnut) at the bottom of the sleeves to prevent coolant leakage. You do not
want antifreeze to leak into the crankcase. The block needs to be thoroughly cleaned of all rust and dirt where these sealing rings are installed.
If the block is sludged up it should degreased
and all oil passages cleaned. The crankshaft and head should cleaned too. The crankshaft needs to be measured for wear and to determine if a polishing is needed or if it needs to be ground
undersize for undersize bearings. The head needs to be checked too. Worn guides, valve seat
condition and thickness of valves to name a few. That student will like working on that engine. Hal

Those old seals are known to leak. They get hard from age and start dripping. You'll need a sleeve puller to pull those sleeves if you decide
to remove them. You can make a puck if you access to a lathe. I have sketch of one if you need it. Hal
PS: With new sleeves and pistons and good maintenance that tractor will be around for another 50 or 60 years.

we did have antifreeze in the oil, I was going to fill the block and check for leaks,. looked like the head gasket had leaked, as for the puller, had to make one last year for the other teacher's C, (same engine as the A)heck had to make one for my M also..

Now I know where to get one made, just kidding.
In think my manual tells you fill the block and check for leaks. Just enough to cover the seals would be enough. Hal
