I am using a 1256 International diesel to pull two, sometimes three J&M 385 bushel wagons out of the field. The clutch on this tractor is quite particular and I am not sure what to think. When I let out on the clutch it acts just like it should the tractor starts moving then I let it the rest of the way out the tractor goes faster almost like a two speed, it really jerks then. Is this a clutch adjustment issue? I had a manual I can't seem to find on how to adjust but I want some other opinions if this sounds like what is going on. The clutch does not slip. I just got the tractor, it is suppose to have a new ta and it has a big chrome stack on it, and it won't idle down like I want it to. Is it possible someone has done something to the clutch for pulling or does it sound like the clutch is why the guy got rid of the tractor? Any thoughts please?

Your dump valve is out of adjustment . SOOOOooooo here we go again , First set the free travel on the clutch pedal Got that, next with the help of a friend have him push the clutch pedal down to the stop on the floor plate ( engine OFF) go to the right side of the tractor there is a rod from the cross shaft of the clutch that goes down to a lever (arm ) that has a hair pin that hold the clevis pin in remove the hair pin break the locknut loose then remove the pin and hold the lever back and try and install the pin adjust till the pin will slide into the clevis then let the clutch pedal up and add on e to one and a half turn more and install the pin and hair pin , Next go back around the tractor to the left side you will see a long 1/4 inch bolt about 6 or 7 inches long from the clutch rod to the dump valve linkage on the MCV loosen the lock nut and back off about four or five turn now start the tractor with park loc set tractor in nuteral push the clutch pedal all the way down to the stop start turning the adjusting bolt in till the oil lite just come on providing that it works if not fix the lite first stop as soon as the lite comes on let the clutch pedal up and add one more turn to the bolt and lock it down no more double shifting all gone. now send 25 dollar to me for consultation fee. i could get rich on this one.
