I have found an I-9 with a military conversion. It has dual wheels with truck like tread on the rear and seats on each fender for passengers. Otherwise it looks like a W-9 . Can anyone tell me if IH built this or was it converted by another company? Also it has a Y14 in the serial number. Does that mean anything? It sure is an interesting machine --do they have collector value?

Are you sure it is a I-9 and not a MRS-14. MRS tractors used the UD-14 and UD-18 engines which might explane the Y-14 in the serial number, or the Y-14 might just be a military specification of a I-9. The military used quite a few MRS tractors. Letter series era MRS tractors looked like overgrown W tractors and later MRS tractors were larger four wheel drive tractors. The MRS-14 primarly competed with the Cat DW-10.

The military used a lot of tractors where I worked. I never saw any IH Indusrial tractors, but they used a lot of Case tractors for pulling gun motor carriages to and from the firing ranges.
They had hand clutches and dual wheels on the rear. The government orders everything on contract bidding. They may have changed that since I retired. They were always going with the low bidder and they got shafted by doing this. They used a lot of the 504 Farmalls for mowing the ranges. Then they had JD's and later Fords. All by low bidding. They also used a lot of the 140's on the golf course for pulling those fairway mowers. They're the reel type mowers and you don't see too many anymore. Hal

PS: They used a lot of Super A's too and they had a foot throttle too.

Hal, The Super A tractors that you mentioned in your post with the foot throttle, wouldnt that make them industrial models? Just curious on your thoughts.

I listed the Super A's as being used by the military I'm not 100% sure about that, but they
probably did use them. I know they used A's and I think they were known as industrial tractors and they had foot throttle's. Some of men that post on here have some of these Farmall A's and they were painted olive drab. They used Cat dozers and they were painted OD too. They may have used IH dozers too. I think those Case tractors had foot throttles too with the dual rear wheels. They would run pretty fast too.
They used Centaur tractors too. I hope I spelled
that right. These tractors would fly down the road. All had sickle bars on them with hydraulic lift. Hal
