If I got it into my head that I wanted to add this option to my B, what are the parts that comprise an exhaust lift and where abouts should I be price-wise in buying same? Anything to look out for?

I have a strange bracket on the B located just frontwards of the sediment bowel that has a swinging arm that passes thru it. Would this be part of the lift system or is it something else?
I could scare up a pic if it would help. Just takes me a while to load em with dial up.

I did an article on that system for Red Power about 2 years ago. I strongly suggest you read the article. If you don't have the magazine, it is still isted as available as a back issue on their web site.

The parts breakdown for both versions is in the A/B Parts Catalog. Specific power lift parts were required to adapt each implement to the power lift. The conversion parts were usually in their own manual.

Just got off the phone with Red Power and the issue is being mailed to me tomorrow. Thanks for the info, I look forward to reading it!

I pieced one together on an A and got it to work. It is pretty cool. The exhaust pressure valve is the hardest to find, but all the other parts are out there.

Here are some pictures and a chart you may want to check out:

I put a diagram up showing how it works and the components:

Not sure whose site this is but these pics helped me alot:

Thanks for the great links! I copied the Adobe file into my archives. The pictures were great as I had never seen one of these before (and known what it was) so I could see how it set on there. Interesting item, but it does nothing for the looks of the tractor! Thanks again.

That bracket is probably part of the linkage for the system. What implement would you want to use. I have cultivators and a B-187 mounted two-way plow. They use the exhaust lift. They get a lot of attention at shows. I alos have parts for the system.

Thanks for the responses! I would probably be most interested in a blade initially, if there is such a thing for the B. Eventually cultivators and other tillage related implements. I use my tractors as much as possible and would like to try the B on some row crops....most likely field corn. I have the bracket and an arm that extends out either end of the bracket with a right angle bend on either side. The rest of the parts are in the wind somewhere and I will have to obtain them to do this. I am assuming (since I never saw one) that these parts would include some type of cylinder, the mentioned diverter, and a control arm of sorts to the driver. Just guessing.

Dave: There is or at least I should say was an A with working exhaust lift not that far from you in SW Ontario. The guy had this tractor for sale, and I haven't talked with him lately. Gene knows the tractor as he helped the guy get the exhaust lift up and running. Gene went to see it in operation. I don't know if he still has the tractor, gene may know. By the way, he told me that without gene's help it wouldn't have happened. Not a lot of folks out there that understand these.

HUGH i sure enjoyed the trip up there to see you and DAVE is great fun to help get these exhaust lifts working. Got to come up again sometime. Sold a B with B-192 exhaust lift plow last week down in MISSOURI guys wife said we just have to have it. She told wife she cant wait till husband goes somewhere so she can drive it. It had the buddy seat with hand rail and back rest. So now i have to build another one. Working on it today as it will be time to plow gardens. Keep the snow away for a while.

Thanks Hugh! I am going to try to add my name to that list. Can't stand having part of it there and not trying to get the rest. Everything comes available eventually!

You certainly aren't afraid of challenges, that's for sure... I think the exhaust lift, let alone one in working condition, is a fairly rare item to find. Good luck!

Yes, that is part of the exhaust lift. The left (carburator) side of that arm would have a rod that goes to the diverter valve on the exhaust manifold. The right side would have a rod that goes to the control handle near the throttle/governor control. If I remember right the operator would pull that control to acivate it. There should be diagrams of it in parts books.

I see the lift cylinders & cables at auctions from time to time and they usually go for next to nothing because very few people know what they are. The diverter valve might be hard to come by because they were in the exhaust stream and got a lot of corrosion.
I think gene b on here has that system on a working tractor, he may be able to help you find parts for it.
