Well those of you that know me know that I am slowly building a High horse power H motor. It sure is taking some time and now last Fri was my wifes last day at work becuase of the Corprate buy out of her company. So now its gonna get a lot harder to pick up parts that I need.I told the machinest that it was perfect timing cause in a nother week or two the wife would have made me use the money for grocerys or something dumb like that. Any hooo So the machine shop called yesterday and said that my head was finally done. So this is my ? He machined the Valve guides to accept some type of positive valve seals. Has anyone ever heard of this before? Is it Good ? Bad? And I ended up short one sona of a gun clip that goes on the valve so it cant drop if it comes unhooked. You know son of a bi!%# there goes a nother one when you try to put them on or off and they fly across the gravel garage floor. Does anyone have an extra Valve clip for a H head that they could send me? I will give you my Boys lunch money for one. Heck he doesnt need to eat. LOL Next When should I paint the head and Block.? Tape it off now and go to it or wait till she is asembled? Does any one know where I can get some mechanics wire for the main cap bolts? I guess thats all I can think of at this time I just hope I can figure out how to put it back together its been about a year since I tore her down. So get ready for some more questions and begging for small parts that I cant find. JON

You can get that safety wire at your local auto parts store. They used a lot of that on aircraft engines and they had a tool for twisting that wire. We used a lot it on tank engines and we did it by hand until we had an Air Force mechanic
from OK came in on an aircraft engine and we got the P/N and ordered some. Hal

Magman, are you talking about the valve keeper, a pair of them wrap around the valve stem and fit down inside the cap on top of the spring? Your machine shop should be able to get them, or any good auto parts store. If not, e-mail me, I have some heads apart that I am in no big rush to put back together and I could spare a keeper or two.

Nope I actually got double the amount of keepers in my kit. The thing I am looking for is a little clip thats under the keeper and spring that goes around the valve so if the keepers come off it stops against the guide so the valve wont drop into the chamber. Kinda like a small kotter pin JON

OK, I'm with you now. Again, try a GOOD auto parts store, and also your Case-IH dealer if you have one close. IF that fails, I could spare one or two of them also.

Let's see, You loose your job and now your wife is loosing hers? So like, does your kid work? Anyway nobody gives me a paycheck and I keep operating. Maybe you can sell some more mags. I've got a truckload that needs rebuilt and did you see? A bunch of carbys too? Just more stuff that keeps finding me. I don't hardly have time to sell my own stuff anymore and have quit buying. Another neighbor brought somemore stuff the other day and I helped him set up his own acct. Is that just a little sping wire clip? I bet the auto parts store has some more. I'm sure I have some too but who knows where? I can't bemember nutin no more.

Yep thats what I am looking for that little clip. I have a hand full for an M head but there to big the spring nocks them off. I have stayed right away from ebay the last couple months did not want to be tempted. I figured I would wait till fall to sell again when people are thinking about restoring there machines and want a good rebuilt mag. Actually Jan through June is my best time. JON

Perfect Circle (Dana Corp) sells positive oil control seals. There is a teflon ring that is designed to move up and down about 1/16 inch inside a rubber cap. The rubber cap has a groove in it to allow this movement. The teflon slides on the stem during the remainder of the valves motion. The action of the ring in its rubber groove controls the rate of oil flow into the guide. These are very accurate in construction and easy to install on machined guides. I have installed them on every engine I have ever rebuilt, and every head I have serviced. 150+ units. I have never had one fail. None of the heads have worn their guides (Some new some knurled). They are the good stuff, well worth the minor effort to assure reduced oil consumption and good guide wear.
Approved to use!!
