What is the proper way to shut down a tractor that doesn't have a kill switch such as the F series tractors. I just shut off the gas a let it run out. Iv'e herd that it can hurt the tractor. Is this true? Some Iv'e herd choke it. What is the right way?

Thanks in advance,

Rev.

Here is our way: take it out of gear, get off tractor, shut off gas let run for a little bit, kill it with the mag(like said before)when it is off put the mag lever back in the middle of the travel range.good to go the next time

When I was in my teens I was one chosen to cultivate with our F20 from 6 AM till sundown from early May through August. When I got home with it put it in fourth gear throttled down held brake and killed and it was off and gone in a few seconds. If this did it any harm we never knew it as it was still running fine when it was traded for M.

Choking is a BAD method because the unburnt gasoline washes the cylinder walls. There is a grounding mecanisim built into the original F4 magneto. full up on the lever is full retard and full stop. If you have a replacement magneto without a ground built into it your next best choice will be to turn off the fuel supply and wait.
