Folks,

I have been preping and priming a lot of my pieces to the tractor recently. When I stripped my auxilliary fuel tank down to bare metal, I noticed there were a number of little pin holes in it. I have not intention of running fuel through this once the project is complete, but I need to patch these holes up for the paint job. What brands or materials do you reccomend I use to do this, bondo, etc. I assume I shoudln't use JB weld, b/c I need to sand and prep the area again for primer and paint. Any hints?

Thanks.

JB Weld is my primary body filler for dents more than about 1/16-1/8 inch deep, should work fine on your pinholes, if you are sure you won't use the tank -- but, I would rather fix it right or see if I can find a replacement tank. The JB Weld gets sanded and covered with body filler -- repair is invisible when painted, and the body filler is not thick enough to crack later.

You can solder those pin holes shut with a big soldering iron. Don't use a torch. Hal

Any auto body filler should be just fine. JB weld can be sanded, prepped, primed, whatever, just like any other epoxy type filler.

I'd get some of the epoxy that's made for gas tank repairs and plug the holes, then finish with the body filler to smooth it off for painting.
