I`ve had a farmall "C" since 1971. I have not paid attention to the casting numbers or the serial number till now. The casting numbers are 8-24-t thru 12-22-t. The serial # is 72191. 1951 starts at 71880. The letter "T" is 1950. Did they use left over parts in 1951 from 1950 for the first few made,or did someone change the seat base with the serial number plate off another tractor? If serial number is correct with tractor it would be the 311th made in 1951 correct??

Since the casting numbers are dated in late 1950
your tractor may not have been built until early
1951 using the components made in 1950. If the tractor production is like the auto industry, the
1951 tractors probably were on the market in late 1950. Hal

The tractor industry wasn't/isnt like the auto industry, though. There is no such thing as a "model year" with tractors, just the production year. The serial number only indicates the year of final assembly.

A tractor like the C is essentially the exact same tractor from the beginning of production through the end, and that production could run for several years. Parts are used in the order that they arrive at the final assembly plant; they didn't stop using "1950" castings simply because they were building "1951" tractors.

That's what I said, they probably used 1950 parts on the 1951 tractor during assembly of the 1951 tractors until castings made in 1951 were made available for that tractor. Hal
