condensation under the distributor cap

My H has been running poorly once in a while. It acts like it is loading up at idle. New plugs, points, reset the timing innumerable times, tried a different coil, put a shim in the rotor, etc. The problem seems to be condensation under the distributor cap.

It has not been particularly humid or even cool yet, any ideas on why it collects in the cap, and how to prevent it ?

Thanks

Greg

I had a tractor that you could clean out the cap and a day later it was full of moisture again. The tractor had sat five years when I got it, I put it under a shed and left the cap off when not in use for a couple of weeks, had excess condinsation in the crankcase from sitting all those years. I havent had a problem for a long time now, use it pull the cap, need it again in a day put the cap back on, just needs to air the moisture out.

I have never had occasion to try it but a friend of mine after each fishing trip sprays the underside of his distributor cap with WD-40. I don't know if it prevents condesation or counteracts its affects but his claim is that it fixed the problem for him.
