Hi all,I've got a '40 M with a factory WFE that is giving me a challenge. The problem is that the steering gear arm isn't clearing the adjusting rod. The rod gets jammed up just on top of the end of the arm...not so much that you can't turn the wheel, but certainly enough that all the expensive paint I'm about to apply to the old girl will be ground off immediately. I'm also worried that a shock to the front wheels could transmit enough of a jolt to break the steering gear arm. (It was broken when I got the tractor and I could see that it had already been welded once before...so there are two cast welds on that piece already.) So, something's wrong. Here are my thoughts: 1. The arm is upside-down. Nope...tried it both ways...still no clearance. 2. There's been a lot of work done on the steering knuckle arms...maybe they're not stock size anymore and they don't raise the connecting rod high enough. (It doesn't look different from the parts manual picture.) 3. The gear arm was incorrectly repaired so that it doesn't have the proper shape. Hmmm. That also doesn't seem likely because the end of arm (where the vertical pin drops in) is good and vertical. So, I'm a bit stumped. I'm also not very familiar with the IH WFE, so I've posted some pics. Maybe you can notice something out-of-place that I'm not seeing.
