Cub/154 Oil Breather Question??

I wash my oil breather every year, blow it out, let it dry, oil it then let the excess oil drip out (dipstick pointing down). I give each hole a few drops. My question is, it makes a mess overtime, should I oil the breather like the book says (30 wt oil)?. It is kind of a pain everytime I check my oil because it is messy and kind of a pain to keep the top part of the dipstick clean where it goes in the filler tube. Thanks!!

I get blowby out the filler tube and an accumulation of grass clippings. I just wipe the breather off and fill tube with a rag before checking the oil.

I wash the oil breather out with kerosene. I do not add oil to the screen.
