Are the clamshell fenders -curved over tires-, on a early IH utility tractor the same as those that I have seen on a M. There was a set on ebay this week that where smooth with no light mounting holes or stamped bose for light on them. The set I found at junkyard, one fender is smooth and one has light mount with holes. My neighbors 400 has same fenders as I found. What is correct or is there two kinds of clam shells?

The M should have 2 smooth fenders, no light boss. If you could snag 2 left fenders from 300s etc, they would be the ones for an M, or if you like body work, you could "shave" the light boss and patch it.

As far as I know, the 300-350 utilities and industrials were mostly fitted with fenders on the assmebly line. The left hand side of the tractor used the fender with the boss and light mounting holes. The other light equipped tractors including the Farmall and Wheatland used a light mounted on a bracket that was bolted to the frame. A parts book should clarify this matter.
