Super C PTO shaft?

It looks like my "new" Super C spent lots of time on a belly mower with the drive pulley wallowing around on the PTO shaft. Anyway it's splines are worn BAD! It appears from the parts book that I'll have to pull the entire belt pulley/PTO attachment off to get the PTO shaft out. Right? Can this attachment be pulled out and reinstalled without taking the top off the transmission/differential housing? Any suggestions as to where to look for a replacement shaft?

As John said, no need to pull top of tranny. Take out the bolts and the unit slides out the back. As John says, use a gear puller to get the gear off the shaft inside the unit. Don't try to drive the shaft out, as that won't work because the woodruff key on the shaft at the gear will hit the bearing preventing removal by this method.

Its a pretty simple fix, about seven(?) bolts and the whole assembly slides out the rear.No need to pull off top deck.Have your replacement parts ready and the job should take about an hour if it comes apart as it should. The parts are available on eBay most of the time,or talk to some pullers who have pulled them out to lighten their tractor.John.

Hi Leon, Yes, you need to pull that assembly off to change your PTO shaft. You will need a 3 finger puller to get the large drive gear off the PTO shaft. I dont know were you are located, but you can start with any of your local salvage yards or put a call into a place like steel ranch for replacement parts. You will also need a new gasket for the PTO housing and new O-ring for the belt pulley housing. While you have it apart you may as well change your seals also. Hope this helps.
