Hi, I just aquired a B-414 gas burner and the guy could tell me little about it. He said it was maybe a '69. I need to know the year model and oil capacity and what fluids it uses as I am new to tractor ownership. It has the following numers on it-3044042R1 on the trany and J3522. Also on a pump looking thingy on the front/side of the engine has 3043849R1.I bought a shop manual, but it tells how to rebuild it, not maintain it.Any advice? Thank you!

More than likely it is a 1962,1963 or early 1964 model from the part numbers. The transmission case number you quote was changed in mid 1964 to a different number when the brakes were changed to the late style (and for the 424 tractor). The gas model is the rare version as only less than 20% of them were gassers. I also have a 1963 B414 gas with power steering and the 1501 loader. They are a stout little tractor and the gas motor has longevity.

I've recently been doing some work on a B-414 like yours & I have a few questions. The valve in the p/s cyl. was stuck. Tore the cyl. down and cleaned and replaced o-rings. The steering is still somewhat dissapointing. It does help a lot, but is very hard to steer with tractor sitting still. Is this normal for this type of steering ? Would this describe the operation of your B-414 steering ?
