I have a 46 Farmall H that need some repair done on the generator. I have the 6V with 2-wire cutout relay. Upon inspection of the generator I have 3 brushes. 1 is connected to the armature post the other 2 have brushes but the wires that were inserted into them were found lying in the bottom of the casing. I can't tell where these wires were connected. The brushes, springs and commutator are in good condition and the rotor spins freely. Does anyone have a diagram or schematic on how internal wiring of the generator should be? I just need to be sure which brushes are which so i do not damage or destroy anything. It looks like someone tried to repair it and didn't quite know what they were doing. I don't want to make the same mistake. Also, can I find parts for this generator anywhere? Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks

Ken Bruce

One brush (as you know) is connected to the "A" terminal.

The brush directly opposite that brush is in a grounded brushholder, which is NOT insulated from the endbell, and the brush lead simply connects to the brushholder, and nothing else connects there.

The odd brush at an angle to the other two is the "third brush", and connects the a wire from the field coils. (The other wire comming out of the field coils is connected to the "F" terminal.)

I hope this is understandable!

The schematic in my parts manual doesn't show the internal wiring, but the local alternator repair shop didn't have any trouble finding parts for my delco generator.
