The rear axles on my F-20 are leaking oil and need information on how to fix them. I have a parts book but the only thing that looks anything like a seal is called a rear wheel felt washer (part #15142-D). Does this keep the oil in or am I missing something

I replaced the felt washers in mine and they still leaked so i took them back apart and did some investigating. I found a drain hole in the back of the housing behind the cage bearing that was plugged with hardened grease. This was causing the oil to build up in there and leak out past the felts. I removed the clog and now I have no oil leaking from my hubs. I guess someone put too much grease in the fitting on the hub.

There are two, one to keep the grease in the transmission/rearend in it's place and one behind the brake assembly to keep the grease in the bull gear housing in it's place. The one behind the wheel hub is to keep dust out of the outer cage bearing. I'd remove the fill (over flow) plug on the side of the bull gear housing (not the drain plug on the bottom) and let the grease flow down a clean path into a clean container till it stops and put it back in the transmission. You will find that when you keep the bull gear housings from over filling, you will not have as much problem with grease leaking out the axel shaft seal, also, give the zerke fitting in the middle of the wheel (on the out side) a couple shots of gun grease from time to time, that is what lubricates the cage bearing. --Walt--

Thanks Walt I will check to see if it is over full and grease it before ordering parts. Dave
