Iam putting the head back on a H and Iam not sure if the studs are the right length. Could someone tell me how long they should be and do you need washers under the nuts. Most of mine are 5 5/16 and 3 are 6 1/16. Thank you.

Parts manual shows 5 long and 11 short studs. Doesn't specify length. If I recall, two of the long studs are for the throttle bellcrank. Also, serial number 49570-up has three stud washers. I think they go on the three stud sleeves in the head and should use the remaining three long studs, but am not positive. Maybe someone else will confirm my guesses.

My manual doesn't mention any washers when pulling the head. Why do you think the stud height is wrong? Set the head on the block and see if you have enough threads for a full nut and don't forget to allow enough threads for the head gasket. That way you can determine if the studs
are at the correct height. This is why we recommend everyone take pictures and video before disassembly and to separate engine parts as you remove them and place into individual boxes. Reassembly goes a lot smoother. Hal
