I was changing all fluids on the 39 H and noticed when I was going to drain the block that there was no petcock behind the carb. Was this even on a 39 H? Also the radiator drain plug is in a place that is impossible to get to. I think it was on the left side with a iron pipe cap on it. The tires are in the way on the NF so I just filled it up and called it good.

I don't think any of the Hs or Ms had drain petcocks, but they all did have a drain plug in the block. The drain plug on my 1940 H has been twisted off, and what is left of it is flush with the block. Very hard to tell there is a drain plug there unless you look really hard. I would bet that yours is similar.

Yes, it looks like it has been twisted off. I can see something that used to be there but not no more. I will use the bottom hose to drain it.

Once I got the drain plug off on my "H", I ran an extension a few inches toward the back so it is more easy to drain the radiator.

It's not impossible, just difficult to do without some spillage.

You could pull the bottom radiator hose and drain the block and radiator and refill with new antifreeze mixture. Hal

Thanks guys for the response. Was there a drain petcock on the block in 39? It has either been removed and welded or there wasnt one.

I would think that there'd have to be some sort of coolant drain on the block... They didn't have antifreeze back then, or at least farmers couldn't afford it. They would fill the block with plain water only when they were using the tractor, then drain the radiator and block afterwards... At least that's what my Dad told me.

His M and my H have pipe plugs on the left side of the block behind the carburetor, not petcocks.

My W6 has a"butterfly" shaped drain plug in the block below the carb. It's in there real tight. Every so often I put the wrench on it, maybe someday it will move..... ..... ...
