I wasn't able yet to do a compression test on my H (my friend has to come up with a good compression gauge). I was just wondering, in case I have a stuck ring, is there something to put in the oil that I can try to get a ring unstuck? Thanks!!

Your local GM dealer carries a product called "Top Engine Cleaner," about $8 a pint, pour into cylinders and let sit for two or three days. Worked wonders on my blue tractor with faulty rings.

Any tractor I get that has been sitting for a year or more I fil the cylinders with tranny fluid and let it sit for a few days and so far have never had a problem with stuck rings. But there are other tricks I use also.

I was a Johnson-Evinrude dealer for years. Two-stroke outboards are somewhat prone to stuck rings (two-strokes have an oil/gas mix and they can stick over the years). Evinrude-Johnson makes a product called "Engine Tuner", the primary purpose of which is to loosen the carbon and free up the rings. Read the instructions as it is powerful stuff. Mainly, it is Techron, again, the purpose of which is to free up an engine loaded with carbon. It works! Good luck with it.

I've seen engines that have more compression than the recommended specs. Three out of 6 cylinders
were wet with oil and was fouling plugs. Pulled the head and found heavy deposits of carbon in the combustion chambers and on the valves.

Dropped the pan and removed the pistons and about all the rings were stuck in the lans (grooves) from heavy carbon deposits. Even the oil holes in the pistons were sealed with carbon.

A lot of cleaning carbon from all the parts including a valve job, new rings, oil pump and rod bearings. The engine wasn't sludged up either. Ran fine after that. Total cost less than $50.00. This was in 1971. Hal

SeaFoam - sometimes it works, sometimes it don"t - really depends on why the ring is stuck.
