Newer owner of old farmall h tractor. Noticed there wasnt a filter in the gas line to the carb. I do ad a lead additive. Would this cause any problems if I was to put one in?

You do not need an in-line filter, and you do not need any type of additive.

After seeing how much fine rust had gotten past the intact sediment bowl screen (built up in the carb screen) on my H, I put one of those clear cylinder inline filters for 5/16" lines from NAPA (NAPA #: 730-9561) . It's got a changeable filter element. That way I can just look to see if there's anything building up (2+ years, so far nothing). You could also use one of those clear plastic disposable filters but check the flow rating - make sure it's not made for fuel pump systems.

The lead stuff is just a waste of money, the gas you get now days works just fine in the older engines with out it. As far as a filter the sediment bowl has a filter and also because of the way its made also works as a filter. If you put and inline filter in make sure its made for a system that doesn't have a fuel pump or it will cause you problems.

The filter is available at the dealer, p/n 29902DX. It's a low micron filter and won't filter out an additive.A grain of sand or fleck of rust perhaps.

That part # is for the screw in brass screen filter/fitting,and not an inline filter.Check your line at the carb (where it screws in) and unscrew that brass fitting and see if the screen is still intact.Usually it gets poked thru after 50 years of getting clogged so it wont clog again..but sends crap to the carb instead. My 300U had the screen poked thru and junk in the sediment bowl.Amazing it ran as well as it did.You shouldnt need an additional filter....inline.You have 2 already (sediment bowl, and the carb screen).
