Bought a 1256 about a month ago, not running. Try starting it with starter and battery charger would crank over easy, no smoke but has fuel to injectors, no pop even with eather. I tried to tow it, but it wouldn't turn over in gear. I was wondering if the clutch works hydralicly or other major problems? Looking for help from you quys in the know. Thanks, Chris

I don't know how many possibillities you want for the starting problem. The other things mentioned are things to check and if they do check out ok then another thing could be is that the cylinders are so dry and glazed that it lost its compression. This comes from sitting to long and using to much starting fluid before fuel gets there. This may explain the turning over easy with a charger. If this is the case then you could pull the nozzles out and put some oil in each cylinder and crank it over(with nozzles out)to get the rings sealed to the sleeve, then put it back together and see how it cranks over, and it should make noise with some fire juice squirted in it.

Just thinkin out load here. Could the valve train be in trouble, like not opening the valves. Funny you had no fumes if the injectors are OK. Plus the ether should have made it run. Unless the rings are gone off the pistons. What did the guy tell you about it not running? Pull off intake or check exhaust and see if there is air moving.

you cant tow it to get it started, without hyd to the ta the motor wont spin.however ,i do know a guy who said he pull started a 1086 by shorting across the clutch switch so the starter would spin without the clutch in,and spun the motor a little while pulling it until the ta kicked in.

if fuel pump was removed it could be 180 out of time. if no fuel at injectors might be pump shaft broke. take timing cover off pump lookin, while someone rolls engine, to see if pump is turning.
