clutch or gear stuck on hills

I have a IH/Farmall 656 gas. Three times the tractor has gotten stuck in gear and clutch wont disengage when on a slight incline. Tractor comes out of gear and when I think its in a different gear I let the clutch out but tractor wants to stall out if that makes sense. Each time I have managed to push tractor backwards only inches and comes out of gear and everything is fine. Has only happened when attempting to shift while on an incline. Is this the typical IH shifting problems I hear about or something that may need tweaked?

Your main clutch and TA linkages need to be adjusted. Your TA clutch is not disengaging when the pedal is pushed down. At the same time, the TA ramp/rollers are locking up as they should normally do in this situation, creating the effect of the TA being in direct drive and TA at the same time, which just is just like being caught in two gears at once- causes a binding effect. As you try to force a shift with this happening, your worn out shift linkage does not totally disengage the gear you're coming out of, you stick it in another gear, you let out the clutch, and the engine stalls. Get a I&T manual and spend a little time going over a few adjustments.
