My F-12 requires several cranks to get her going. Since it has a fuel pump does that make it harder to start than the vaccuum carbs such as on the M and the H or even the F-20? How easy does your F-12 start?

Thanks
Mark

Mine starts on # 2 or # 3 crank depenting on the weather and my enthusiasm. Probably can't go by my experience though, mine is a Waukesha flat head with no fuel pump.

Mine was a hard starter till I replaced the manifold and carb gaskets. Now. with no choke, first or second pull & she takes right off. Your bowl should have adequate gas in it to get it started. Using factory plugs with a good hot fire.

My F-14 starts relatively easy if I start it once every couple of weeks - longer and it takes a lot of cranking. I also found mine starts better with hotter plugs. When I first got mine it started hard and found the fuel line full of corrosion.

#1...They are notorious for easy flooding
#2...If they flood, it takes a while to unflood them.
#3...If the carb is completely out of fuel, it may take a while to get it pumped up to the carb.
#4...if you're not a cussing man, learn to...it'll make you feel better.
#5...don't get me wrong, I love mine and would never get rid of the little piece...never mind.

I had the same problem and found that all of your fuel lines need to be tight. Also insure the nuts holding your carburetor on are tight. Do you have a good gasket? The old ones were held together with a staple. The new ones are 5 singles stacked one on top of the other. Mine starts on the second click of the magneto. You might want to check the tightness of the plug in the top of the fuel chamber that sticks out of the hood also.

The F12 requires that intake manifold vacuum to pull that atomized fuel into the combustion chamber too. The pump just supplies the gas to the carburetor. The M & H and a lot of tractors
have their fuel gravity fed to the carburetor. Hal
PS: Several cranks isn't too bad.
