I got a706 gas ,1964 I paid $4775.00 at a sale got it home dropped a valve 1st day. Tore it down, took engine to a machine shop . Told head was junk,,, block was junk. Bought a used short block that needs overhauled . Bought aset of used 301 pistons for a 806 gas .20+ and a new set of rings. I was told that if I popped the sleeves out and had it bored it would be the same as a 806 and about 85 HP.I have bought a used head needs fixed no valves. The tractor has good sheet metal, Was repainted not to long ago, almost new tires all the way around Rear wheel weights, resent TA rebuild Clam shell fenders, dual hubs, wide front,Fast hitch, Dual PTO, good seat. Was going to trade for a 560 Lp in fair shape, the owner wanted $2000.00 for it but wanted to trade even up . I agreed, But the owner called and said he could not afford to truck the tractors gas cost to much. I was asked what I would take for the tractor straight up? I want to try to get $3000.00 a little over half of what I have invested in it. Is that to much?? Or should I trade for another 560?? Any Help? Thanks.

I had the same luck you had. I bought a 706 and when I got it home,started tearing the engine down. The farther I went the worse it got. The engine wasn't abused, just plain wore out. It's been a couple of years. I got a short block from Central Tractor for 1595.00, that was cheaper than I could buy the parts. Engine has run like a clock.

i saw a 706 gas, nf, fh, clamshell fenders, bad ta,fair tires, no weights, decent sheet metal sell for $2750 at a consignment auction this summer. with good tires on yours, i'd say $3000 was fair. the new tires should be close to balancing out the engine being apart in value.

From the way you have described the tractor I don't think you are out of line by wanting $3,000. The sum of the remaining good parts including the tires should make it worth that much. The tractor would also be an excellent candidate for a complete engine transplant if someone was so inclined. I saw a picture once of a 706 with a 396 Chevy installed. Don't know how practical that would be for a working tractor but it would sure be fun. Don't let it go too cheap.

Short,

Can ya make a loader tractor out of it?

Boy, that size of rig, gas engine and fast hitch just don't fit together too well.

Sorry to hear 'bout your troubles,

Allan

I saw two 706's go at NW Ohio sales recently for about what you paid ($4200 and $4400), but they were diesels. I have no useful input for you other than that. My condolences on the engine problems. We all hate to see a sale play out that way.

Short;

Over the 20 years I tried farming I bought 3 Farmalls with bad engines. Fixed one to use for loader tractor. Took the wrong one to the auction and fixed the other one. Oh well,it was only money.
