Not trying to start a conversation war here and get yelled at like last week. But just wondering if you guys think the fuel prices will go down at all this week or do we need to suck it up and pay what we have to. I have been trying to think of ways to put my winter rye in and save money while doing it. But Even if I stick to the offset discs to work the ground I still will have to use the SM to pull them and thats the biggest gas hog I got. lol The ground was worked right after the early summer harvest. I have been thinking about broadcasting with the 4 wheeler and running over it with the disc opened to the first notch just to throw some dirt over the seed and leave it at that. I could pull the culipacter behind the disc to try to save a trip around the feilds that way. Any ideas, I have the Cub and Hs and the SM I dont have a working drill though. JON

Gas futures are down some. Oil is also trading down slightly. I would guess that gas prices should ease down to $2.75 or $2.80 in the next week or so but not sure after that.

I sow rye with a 3 point spin spreader and cover with a spike toothed harrow after the land has been disced. Fuel prices began falling this week-end here in central NC. Two pipelines that serve the south are almost back to full capacity. People stayed home this week-end.

Spent a wonderful labor day with the Little Cowman. Started off the morning moving some bales in for winter feed, after a while I began to wonder what I was riding along for and went off to rake some hay while Hadley finished up the bales by himself. then I helped him take the loader off and I rode on the fender while he baled 20 acres of 4th cutting alfalfa. Don't know for sure what his cycle time was but most of the time he had the tractor in motion before the tailgate was quite shut and was running about 6mph. with 14 ft swaths raked double it didn't take long. Here he is unloading his bales. Yes, I might be proud of this kid.

I showed the picture of your bails to my wife who recently visited Iceland and she said they bail their hay like that. She said that the Icelanders also wrap them in cloth or plastic with a machine for storage. Have you ever seen the wrapper machines?

Awesome!!! Its great to see young people that enjoy doing that kind of stuff. I am 23 and president of an antique tractor club that has an average age in the high 50's. Seems like it is harder and harder to find people my own age or younger that are interested in this old stuff. My girlfriend complains, but I have figured it out. I just love history.

Jon: Expect prices to come down this week, but along with it expect rationing across North America. That is the rumor coming from long haul truckers. Remember this is only a rumor.

Makes sence, if governments don't wade in, the current situation will bankrupt the people of both nations.

If refineries and pipelines are coming back on line and oil prices are going down, then how can gasoline prices go up? Market "experts" (using the term loosly) say it is going to go down. If it does infact go up, how is it not gouging? My $.02

And Yugrotcart, I dont mean to sound like an a$$, I know you are just the messenger.

Don't know anything about rye, Magman, but up untill the mid-60's we planted all our oats from an endgate seeder. This was a broadcaster fit into the tailgate of a wagon and pulled around the field while someone in the wagon scooped oat seed into the seeder. We didn't know what a drill was till we had to make a hole in something. Then we covered the seed with a 4-section drag harrow. Basically a set of teeth on crossbars that could be set straight up to bust up clods after plowing, and then layed down to just barely cover small seed. Don't know why it wouldn't still work. Harley
