I got our 1486 turned up 2 and 1/2 turns from stock. I was out chopping today in 3rd gear with our NH 900 and the EGT light came on and the EGT was to high so i had to back down a gear. Is there anything i can do to keep it cooler? would advancing the timing help?

Try adden no more then 5 degrees if that does not help then back off a half turn . Do you have a pyrometer on it or just the lite ??? i would put a pyrometer on it and see just how hot is hot for hard steady load i don't like to see them much over 950 on the pipe side and 1100 on the manifold side , if it is going higher then China sydrom could take place. And tryen to guess what is happening with the water temp before it showes anything it is to late.

Thanks i'll try that i'l probably go to 19 degrees and see what it does there. The Pyrometer sensor is on the manifold but the whole digital tach just went hay wire so i have been looking for a new pyrometer. i just knew it was getting to hot the water temp wasn't near the red yet but i didn't want to take the chance. I feel dumb asking this also but what is "China Sydrom"? never heard of it before. Is it when the rings and pistons start to melt together? Thanks
