Leaking crankshaft oil seal on B

Hello-

As some of you may vaguely recall (I posted here during that time quite frequently), I "restored" the majority of my BN last year around this time. One thing I neglected to do was replace the crankshaft oil seal, because I figured it was too much work. Unfortunately it"s losing a lot of oil and making a mess, so I have to give it attention.

From what I"ve read and seen, I"ll have to heat the pulley with a torch, and try to pull it off. Then, remove the front cover. I"d imagine it would be a good idea to replace the gasket for that as well? How do I reattach the pulley? Heat it and push it on?

I want to make sure I have all planned out before I start the job.

Thanks.

You should make or have a puller made like this to remove your damper pulley using a hydraulic jack or ram. To reinstall damper, place in an oven at 200 degrees. You need to inspect the hub on the damper where the oil seal contacts this surface. If there's a groove worn into the hub you need to get a speedi-sleeve from Chicago-
Rawhide along with a new oil seal. This puller was designed for a Cub damper, but it can be modified for your B. Hal

I agree with what El Toro said, except he had a type in the URL. Try this:
Link

Also, some early crankshaft pulleys had a setscrew. If you find one, remove it first then do the removal the same way as the later ones.
