Ok...I know you guys will murder me...but I have not found a manual yet.
Got dad's 656 Farmall going. One he built from 3 tractors. It has a 660 engine he rebuilt with a Turbo he added. Smokes a little when cold...runs like a bandit when it warms up. No smoke after warm up...just a real hot rod.
Was running a feed grinder and when it gets too loaded the PTO seems to be slipping. Engine stays the same...grinder slows down.
Is there an adjustment on this PTO? I have worked on 300, 350 and 450s, but it looks totally different.
I leave it to you experts...
Thanks....

That unit is hdy. accuated and like others have said onced sliped it is time for a rebuild and the need for HD clutch pack on that tractor is not needed but after rebuild you must adjust the pressure and that takes a special fitting so that you can fit a gages to it and adjust the pressure by turning the valve stem . On tractors of higher hourse power then i go with the 7 and 9 set up you can do this also but not needed the big thing is lock up pressure.

Bill,
Make sure the rebuild kit you get has 12 discs in it. The standard kit my neighbor got from our local dealer only had 9 discs and the PTO didn't last but about a year before he had to rebuild it again. Get the parts guy at your Case / IH dealer to pull up a pix of the PTO final drive and you'll see there should be 12 discs in the final.

The screen on the pickup tube could be plugged
You need to pull the pto and check it. To do this u need to face the tractor down hill and remove the pto, you need also to remove the top link bracket to get the pto back on. If it is not the pickup tube then it is time to replace the discs and seals in the pto.

Sorry Bill, but you are ready fo an over haul. Do get a manual then check the hyd. pressure to the PTO first. Usually when they slip thats it.

Just a thought...but what kind of grider do you have? Are you sure it's not slipping somewhere within the grinders drive-train? I've had belts slip before that were hard to notice.

You need the I-T IH-202 manual for that tractor. Most good farm suplly places should have them or be able to get them for you. Even this site will have them and or value bilt will have them

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that the 300, 350, and 450 have a planetary gear type PTO and the 656 has a disc type, like a 666. The gear driven PTOs don't slip - they just shred - disentegrate - strip - quit!!
The discs will start slipping.

Thanks guys...I knew you would have the answer.
The feed grinder is fine. I used the 450D on it Saturday and all was fine.
Guess I have a project for when the weather cools off...been awful hot here in SE Texas.
