Hello Folks; I have a Farmall "c" that sat two years without being run. Engine was frozen, but was able to free it and get it running. The problem now is alot of white/grey smoke and smells like it is burning rick. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

White smoke generally means burning oil, black smoke means you're running rich. Since engine was once frozen, I'd guess the rings are no longer seating against the cylinder walls as well as they once did. New rings and honing the cylinder walls should fix you up. Yes, new sleeves would be great, but I stopped an old engine from smoking by doing just this. If you do this, might as well have the head done over while its off. At that time, I suppose you'll know for sure if you need new sleeves or just a quick hone. Good luck.

Dan, do you have anti-freeze in it? If so you should be able to smell it in the exhaust. Does the engine have good compression? There is a good chance you have stuck rings. I would do a compression test if you haven't already. Keep us posted.

Dan, you could have bad valve guides, or possibly your oil control rings are stuck. Does it have good power? How's the oil consumption?

With engine at idle see if any bubbles are in the radiator. May be a cracked head or blown head gasket. Hal

You could pressurize the cooling system to see if there is an antifreeze leak. You will have to take the thermostat out, take the sparkplugs out too. Use one of those pumps all the gas stations used to have in place of the radiator cap. If theres a leak, the pressure will drop right off. While it was sitting 2 years, it could have rusted through somewhere. White smoke isn't good.

White smoke indicates anti-freeze/water in the combustion chamber. Bad head gasket? Cracked head? Try retorquing the head bolts and see if that takes care of it before replacing the head gasket.
