Seams every single time I go to use my 300U it develops a new problem. I was going to start it to work on the over heating problem its got now and it was dead. Started looking around and noticed that the neg battery terminal was melted away. The solinoid was cooked and the pos. cable was burn't back toward the battery about 6 inches. What could have caused this? Two years ago I converted it over to 12 volt. It still has the 6 volt starter in it. Should I get a 6 or 12 volt solinoid now? I'm lucky the tractor didn't burn up along with my shed.

Some how you ended up with a real bad short. I'd pull the starter and have it checked. You may have had one of then little gray things chew up a wire and kick the soliniod in and it cranked the engine till the battery went dead and it that happened the starter will be cooked and probably the soliniod also.
