Just got back from the vintage farm progress show in Rantoul, IL. Did anyone else attend? What did you think? It seemed pretty disorganized to my wife and I. Difficult to enjoy the show when you have to wait 45 minutes to get something to eat, and you can't find anything on the grounds without walking 10 miles. Heck we ran into all kinds of people wandering aimlessly in the parking lot trying to figure out where to go to enter the grounds. I hope it's just a first year show deal, and year after next, they get the kinks ironed out. I really enjoy the I & I Historic Farm Days show in Penfield every year, and that thing is run like a fine swiss watch. Just curious what anyone else thought of it.

I went on Friday. I had planned on just watching the tractor pulls. I took my 300. I found the exhibitor gate easily. When I pulled in I was charged $7 admission. I told the guy that the website stated one free admission per tractor. But he said he had to charge. It was no big deal. It just didn't seem fair though.

I thought the show was awesome though. The pulls were great even for $7 admission. I usually have to pay upwards of $25 to see that kind of action.

The show was fairly well spread out. But that was fine by me. I rode around on my tractor. So it was no problem. I don't think that the promoters would like to have everyone riding around on their tractors though. It could get pretty congested. I was just impressed with the shear size of the event. I cannot wait for the next one!!

With very few modifications to the show, I believe this will be better than any national show I have ever been to.

Your observations are valid. Myself I am a member of another Illinois club with myself and others from our group helping with certain functions. Bear with us as this is too great of an event at a great location to give up on it. Many of us have spent a great amount of time on Fri and Sat not watching a specifc event but how the events and the visitors worked through this. We have learned much and are confident the next show can run as well as the July Penfield event is run. Thank you for your comments.

We will be coming back next time around for sure, but we will prepare differently. I think it would be better to come early in the morning to look at tractors before the crowds get too big. We also want to bring a golf cart or something since it is so big, and throw a cooler with food in the back of it so we don't have to wait in line to eat. And I will definately try and find a map of the grounds. I saw a few people with maps, but we could never figure out where they got them. I think it has real possibilities to be a good show! The thing I like about penfield is the layout: demos over there, for sale over there, tractors over there, vendors over there.. this one seemed like it was just will nilly all over everywhere. When I mentioned the people wandering about the parking lots looking for the entrance to the show to one of the volunteers at the gate, she said she wished they would "tell the volunteers something as well. We don't know what the heck is going on anywhere" We didn't even get down the the field demos since it was so hot and we didn't want to wait all day for a people mover with space on it. I'm still looking forward to the next one, and I marvel at the volunteer effort involved. Don't take any of this as mean spirited, just observations. I'm sure if there is any group of folks that can whip it into shape, it's the antique tractor crowd.

Oh yeah.. last observation... the local media had no idea what was going on either. They misreported the 60 bottom plow time on two different outlets and we missed it. They also stated that there would likely be "several dozen tractors on display" I think there were a few more than 36 there :)

I attended and would have to agree it was pretty disorganized. I really enjoyed myself, though. The tractor pulls were my favorite part of the day.
