1466 hydraulic question

I've got a 1466 that the 3-point hitch will lower on then jerk back up. Wondering if my pump is bad, or if there is a valve somewhere thats bad. It does not seem to have any problem lifting either with the 3-point or, the remotes. Where should I start looking for the problem, and what can I expect to pay fixing it? Thanks for any imfo.

Gary. The first thing to do is to put some weight on the 3 PT Hitch lift it up, shut off the tractor and leave it set over night. If the hitch is clear down in the morning, you have a leak inside in the hitch system in the rear end some place. If it does not go clear down it would be an adjustment. After you shut off the tractor with weight on the hitch you can check for leaks, first you can remove a plate below the seat right behind your feet as you set on the seat. A 1-3/4" by about 3" plate with I thing 4 1/4" kex head scp screws, take it off no oil should come out, you should see a valve stiking out the left side of the hitch cylinder, about an inch hex. This is the cousion relief valve if oil is dripping from the end of the valve that is a cause for what you say is happening. Don"t put you finger over the end of the valve to see if it is leaking, just look to see drops of oil. The control valve is on the right of the cylinder should be able to see just the top look for oil leak an other cause. If the hitch goes down, and you don"t see leak at the first 2 places then you will have to put wieght on the lift arms and not use the third link so you can look in the back through the third link hole to look for oil leaks from the cylinder piston. again no oil should come out and no fingers to check for leaks it only takes 700 PSI to penetrate the skin and you have more than that if you have much of a load on the hitch. When you look for leaks through the third link hole they should be from cloose to the cylinder. This looking just gives you a good idea where it is coming from, you will have to remove the rear deck to fix. If the hitch goes down over night you do have a leak, the pump has nothing to do with this.
