When I start this tractor cold,it can take up to 15 seconds before it moves the gauge over to about 3/4 .When it warms up it doesn't take as long.I really don't think it is the gauge, and it has good pressure when it gets it.Would any of you have any ideas as to why this is happening?I appreciate any help

I'd guess the line to the gauge is partialy blocked.

The oil pressure gauge is usually at the end of the line. That way, everything has oil pressure before the gauge.

You could use lighter oil. I use 10W40 in mine, year 'round. If you are concerned, make sure that all the journal bearings (crank and cam) are good - this involves engine disassembly. Also, just let the engine idle until the pressure comes up.

Could this be a a case of the valve in the filter allowing all the oil to drain back into the crank?

I think that the filter drains itself normally. The filter housing is empty when I let the oil drain and then come back and change the filter.

With 10W40 it takes a little while (5-10 sec.?)for the oil pressure to come up when the tractor first starts. If he is using 30W, it could take longer for the pressure to reach the gauge.

if there is a batch of air in the oil pressure line (from the block to the gauge this will cause the pressure to rise slowly. Bleed the line at the back of the gauge with it running to fix. This is simple, I hope it works.
