WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A B AND BN.

I HAVE ONE WITH A BN ON THE SIDE, BUT IT LOOKS JUST LIKE THE B'S I SEE IN THE BOOKS.

Measure the differential shaft housings. A B's are about 22 inches, a BN's are about 18 inches.

Follow the link below to see where to measure. The picture at the link is of a B.

TH B's have an axle on the left side of the shifter and the BN's just go right to the drop down axle drive.

All B's have equal lenghth axles, with 4" shorter axles on the BN, the one with no axle on the left and and a long axle on the right side has had a final drive from an A put on the left side. This is a common practice for people wanting a mowing tractor, but don't want it wide. This is a very dangerous tractor with th A final drive, unless you stick on flat ground.

Absolutely, positively, incorrect.

You are thinking of an A or Super A. ALL Bs had equal length axles out each side of the differential housing. The BN's axle housings were shorter. The N stood for NARROW.
