Hi, I know nothing about Farmall H"s but now own one, so I am learning. Is there suppose to be a cover plate on the bottom side of the tractor. Directly under in reference to the Belt Drive Pulley. I was looking more closely at the tractor and saw this square opening on its belly, and it looks like a cover plate use to be there. If so, can you tell me what it is called so I can start looking for that plate and sound somewhat intelligent when talking to the salvage yard guys. Also what is that area??

Thanks.

Scott, welcome to Farmall Land and I bet you will enjoy the experience. What cover you need will depend on if your tractor has a hydraulic belly pump or not. If equipped with one, it will be installed in the opening you describe. It will actually extend below the tractor and will have a key-hole opening on each side. It should also have some pipe fittings sticking out the side of the clutch housing. If none of this is on your tractor you are looking for a clutch housing cover (part no. 8025D). I saw several of these for sale at the recent Red Power Roundup in Lebanon, TN for around $40. They are cast as noted by the Cowman. You might try the classified ad section on this web site by putting in a wanted to buy ad. If you have a hydraulic belly pump on your H, you are looking for a rear sheet metal cover. You could probably find one through the classifieds also or maybe the Nebraska Cowman would have one. If not, they are for sale in the Pilot Knob Restorations catalog - contact Ron Berlage, at (815) 777-0826. It is listed as part no. 15079EA for $21. I would suggest you obtain a set of manuals and a parts catalog for your tractor as they are indispensable for this sort of thing. Hal

Hi FarmallHal, My tractor has a belly hydraulic pump, and thank you for describing it so well. The opening is behind that belly pump towards the rear axle, so it sounds like I need to make myself or buy a cover. Does anything go up in that area? I saw a two round shafts on each side with slots in them. Does anything attach in this area, or can it be used for anything?? I will also take your advice to buy some manuals, since this looks like I need to do some learning.

Scott.

Scott, the piece you are missing is called a driving dog in the parts manual. Part no. is 15065EA and you will also need the sleeves for each end Part no. 15057E qty. (2) along with (2) 1/4" X 2 1/2" cotter pin. This part connects the front end of the transmission countershaft to the belly pump to drive the pump and is made in such a manner for easy removal if necessary. To install the dog just align the slots so they are both straight up and down. Slide the two sleeves onto the dog and install the dog with the sleeves between the slots. Once in place slide the sleeves forward and aft and install the cotter pins. If you don't plan on using the hydraulic pump for anything it is perfectly fine to leave it unhooked as it is presently. If you need these parts along with the cover plate try the Nebraska Cowman as I'm sure he would have them around. He is a great source of used parts, very fair with prices and most timely with shipment and just a great person who is well known on this forum. To answer your other questions, nothing else is intended to be in this area. It is used as access for a lot of maintanence needs for both the transmission and clutch. The connection between the clutch and transmission main shaft is right above where the dog goes. It has three tapered bolts with some rubber washers and nuts. The front transmission seals and bearings can be changed from this opening as well without having to split the tractor. Hope this helps and enjoy your tractor. Hal

sounds like you are missing the coupler for the pump.

You are right, I am missing something in there and if it is the coupler driveshaft for the Hydraulic pump, how hard is it to find one?, and my next question, I wonder why they took it out?, unless there is problems with the hydraulic pump unit itself.

Scott.

That hole is where the lift-all hydraulic pump would have been. There was a cast cover for tractors without the optional lift-all pump but they are slightly hard to find.

Cowman, as I recall, there is also a sheet metal cover over the LiftAll driveshaft. This also might be what he is missing. Probably only slightly easier to find than the LiftAll replacement cover, but possible to manufacture at home.

It is also possible to fabricate a cover for the belly pump opening, it won't be original, but it will get the job done. My M has a cover that was made from a heavy aluminum road sign, still has the black and yellow reflective paint on the inside.
