I have the chance to purchase a W12 tractor garage paint job on rubber, straight, complete and running .Would a fair price for this be in the range of 2600.00 to 3000.00 . Trying to decide if this is worth it ( I know they are hard to find). Mostly familar with the 1940's to 50 IH tractors.Thinking on buying to show with my SW4.

Any input appreciated on this subject. Any faults I should look for on this model.

Thanks
ED

I would say that it is in the "ball park" on price. If the wheels are not cut downs it would help it also. Fenders are always a problem on W-12 as they have a tendency to rot out at the attachment point to the axle stub. If they are really solid, again a plus. Make sure the air cleaner is in place, as these are very hard to find separately from the tractor.

cut downs will be steel wheels that are "cut". they will have the outer steel wheel [rim] cut off and the flat spokes will be welded to rims that are for rubber tires. pg

Yes , I know this all the pictures I can find of a W12 look like they have cutdowns on them. Seems the 10-20's model tractors had round spokes when on rubber. The W12 I'm looking at has flat spokes. Does anyone have a picture of a W12 with original rims for rubber? I sure would appreciate it if you could post it.

Thanks ED

Original rear rubber wheels for a W-12 were a very heavy cast iron center with the rim basically pressed on the hub. I have never seen a hub without the rim. There were no spokes with this style. The fronts were available in several styles, some spoked like an F-20, some were cast.

Here is a picture from a Fairway 12 model...it has the rims that were described above...Kind of a rare bird, I think. It lives at our heritage association in East Grand Forks, MN.
