The question is, is an "H" crank the same as a "350"? I do have a spare one for an "H". The parts book says it is, but I'm lookin for some hands on experience to be sure.ok, on to the story.....talk about a bad day..I noticed the old 350 gas farmall makin some noise earlier this summer but i wasn't overly worried. Sounded like some drive train noise and was vibrating under a load. So i thiought it might be in the clutch or throw out bearing. So my father in law said "run it till you know exactly what it is" and I did. I've pulled it a couple of times and even mowed with it some. Tonight she got loud and started to hammer, I thought I threw a rod or spun a bearing....nope....the crank now has a front half and a back half....she split between 3 & 4 at the main....oh well.... thanks for any help anyone could give!!

We had a crankshaft to break when we were running
it on a stationary dynamometer. Was working the midnight shift, sure wakes you up quick. Called in the project engineer and we pulled the engine
and dropped the oil pan. We had a lot of instrumentation to disconnect before we pulled the engine. The project engineer wanted to hear it run, so I fired it up. What a noise. Found one of the counterweights had broken.

The day shift installed a new crank and we kept testing for the rest of the 1000 hours. Hal

The H crank will fit in the 350 block. Just make sure you order bearings for the H crank. I just put an H crank in a 350 block this spring. Also, if I remember correctly, measure the journal diameters on the H crank and make note of the dimensions. The diameters changed once I think through the production of the H. If you have the old bearings for that H crank, look on the back side of them and they will tell you if they are undersized or not. They should have STD, 0.010, or 0.020 stamped on them. The IT manual will tell you what sizes the journal diameters are based on the serial number of the tractor that the crank came out of. Hope this helps ya.

Cheers!

Sid

Hey Howard, ain't those like the V-8's? They run on part of the engine until they need more power then they run on it all? Might be a new concept. 1 and 2 at idle, 1,2,3,and 4 under pull. Might save a lot on gas, Harley
