Does anyone know when the Farmall H Precleaner with the Mason Jar was introduced?
I have a 1941 Model and it has a Dome shaped Cap with a Wire Mesh around the bottom.
Would a Replacement Precleaner with the Jar be OK for this Year?
Thanks,
Donald

As far as I have been taught, pretty much all Farmalls up thru the Super M's in the early 50's all had the Mason jar pre-cleaner. Some were replaced when farmers broke them with the cheaper aftermarket style with plastic viewer for the dirt. The dome with screen you mention I believe is proper on the A's and maybe the B's & cubs but not the H's.
If I am wrong, I guess I was told wrong by another collector. but the original book on my 41 H shows the Mason Jar.

The jar type and plastic precleaners are listed as attachments. Thus the dome type was standard on all models, the jar type was "probably" more common on the H/M etc, the dome on the A/B/C. The dome type was likely discontinued in the early 50's, I have no proof, but the jar type became more common in the later years. The only serial number info I have is for the Super A, the jar or plastic type was available from the start of production, but the dome type was standard. I do not know, however, if the jar or plastic type was available on the A or B. No serial numbers are given for the C, I don't have an SC parts book.

I will withdraw my comment about the dome type being discontinued--as Guy Fay's Hundred series has several pictures of them on the 100-200, etc.

It was an extra and had to be ordered by dealer as there are thousands of them without the jars that is why they bring good prices from tractor fixer uppers. You can buy the jars at any canning supplier.

GeneB, if those original square type jars are still available I would like to know where. The only place I have been able to find them is either on E-Bay, or maybe in an antique store.
