Hi there doctor. I took the head off of this 263 gas that is fouling plugs and using LOTS of oil, combustion chambers, spark plugs, and intake valves are full of black soot. Now what? Supposedly just had valve job, pistons seem fairly tight in sleeves. Should have done a compression test first I guess, but I work more with a pitchfork than wrenches. Thanks in advance for your great advice!

Your rings may be worn or are stuck in the ring lans ( grooves) from all that black soot. Worn valve guides can cause oil consumption too. Those sleeves should be measured for wear, since you have it apart. Did that engine appear to be running too rich? Too much gas may have been removing your oil that lubes your sleeves. Hal

Tractor was running very well, developed a bad miss overnight, a new plug improved it 100%, routine check of oil at that time, was 3 quarts low, 6 hours of running, and needed another 2 quarts
