I walked pass my barn yesterday and thought I would see if the old M would crank since in has set about a month. Well it fired right off, then I tried to back it out from the barn. It seem as though the clutch would not engage. What is the best way to free it up? My son said it worked fine last time he drove it. The gears grind when I try any gear. Thanks in advance.

That is a pretty common problem with old tractors, fords are real good about doing that. Ya I know its a farmall but some thing as far as the problem. I've popped a many a clutch loose. Heres what you do. First is to tie/block the pedel down a day or 2, then if you can start it in the highest gear you can and use the brkes off and on being careful not to throw your self to hard left or right. Then just drive it with the clutch pedel down till it pops loose. Be ready for an hour or so of driveing. The more load you can put on it the better/faster it will pop. Then from now on keep the pedel tied/blocked down when not being used

Old, I've had that happen twice on my M, I just put it in gear, held the pedal down, and hit the start button. The clutch was free almost before the engine started. I don't like the idea of blocking the clutch pedal down, better to start the tractor once a month and take it out for a spin.

I don't like to either but I have one tractor that if it sits over night it will lock up that way. So I have little or no choice but to keep the pedel blocked down. The real bad thing about that tractor is that it is my backhoe tractor and getting it popped loose is no fun in a big way lol.

Doesnt that put an undue load on the pressure plate release springs and the T/O bearing? I think I would rather start the thing every month or so.

I usto think that also but have found that it doesn't. Shoot I have one tractor that if it sits 24 hours the clutch is stuck again so I have to do that no matter what

I was in the Navy from 1974-1980. Heard to many bad things about nam and since my draft card came up 1A I figured I'd joint the navy and do my part with out getting shot at. LOL I do have one running tractor in your color by the way but its up for sale at this time.

I volunteered - went to Vietnam and served with the 101st (70 - 73)... It was a geat character building exercise!!

I figured we were about the same age... don't really know why, but just seemed that way.

Man - if I had some extra cash around, I'd come to your farm and buy at that RED tractor...
Oh well - make sure you give it a good home.

Gotta go - I'll bet my neighbor's boy is just about caught up to me by now... I'm raking and he's baling. I usually get a couple of hours ahead of him and take a break!!

Shoot I'm only asking $850 for it. Its a 194? H still 6 volt and runs good but needs rear tires and a choke shaft and flap. We even have some extra sheet metal for it that could be had for a few extra $$. Also you could always come down this way in Sept and help me with my hay if it ever grows enough for me to bale it that is. Been so dry here that the first cutting only did half of what it should have done. But we have gotten 3 inches of rain in the last couple days so maybe we will get a fall cutting.

I wonder if this would work..... park it against a tree....when trying to start, leave the trans in gear with the clutch down, crank engine,if engine starts and tractor wants to creep ahead (or back) towards the tree, the tree will keep the tractor from moving,so either the clutch will break loose or the tires will dig a trench in the soil...

Do PaulIH300's tree thing with the coil wire out. The starter should break it loose without root dammage. Use fifth gear, it is not going to spin the tires in 5th.
LO Luck JimN

I've had this happen - 350 rowcrop. I put the tractor in third gear and pull started it - then drove around about 10 or 15 mintes and it freed itself up.
Started blocking the clutch pedal down after that and have had no problems since...
